CalFresh (federally known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP) is a federally mandated, state-supervised, and county-operated government entitlement program that provides monthly food benefits to assist low-income households in purchasing the food they need to maintain adequate nutritional levels.
In general, these benefits are for any food or food product intended for human consumption and can add to your food budget to put healthy and nutritious food on the table.
If you are finding it difficult to afford the nutritious food that you and your family needs, the CalFresh Program may be able to help you.
The amount of benefits you can receive is dependent on your family size, countable income, and monthly expenses such as housing, utilities, and so forth.
All u.s. citizens or Legal Permanent Resident children may qualify to receive CalFresh benefits, regardless of where the parents were born.
Parents may also qualify for benefits if all other program guidelines are met.
Individuals with no children also may qualify.
The program issues monthly benefits that can be used to buy most foods at many markets and food stores.
These benefits are issued on an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card which looks like any other credit card.
You do not have to be on welfare to get CalFresh benefits.
Eligibility for CalFresh assistance, as well as the benefit amount, is based on your households size and income level.
Benefits may not be used for items such as alcoholic beverages, cigarettes, or paper products.

I'm homeless and I was told that I would not have to renew my benefits until I was notified to do so and I already renewed my benefits and still have not received them.

I just wanted to give feedback to the supervisors in charge at the Oceanside H&HSA office. Regarding Caseworker, Mr. Gino Beno, He has always handled my case in a very professional and proficient manner. He has always reflected that of an employee who truly cares in doing his job to the best of his efforts, honestly, & accurately, often extending himself beyond that which is required of a worker on behalf of my fault of failing to get my documentation return in a timely manner and I should have had my case dropped. In fact, I have had this happen with two other Caseworkers in the past. And understandably so, also the noticeable frustration from these workers at the time which was understandable as well. As I am well aware, it was a failure on my part. Nonetheless, as frustrating of a case client I may be with delaying getting my paper work returned in a timely manner, Ms. Beno, has always maintained his pleasant relating skills and professionalism without fail. I relate this all with the utmost sincerity. My hope is that he will be commended and recognized for his job performances and dedication, and so he is aware it has not gone unnoticed and at best perhaps, a nomination for well deserved raise? Thank you for your time. Overall, I think you all are doing a good job at the Oceanside office!
